Three reasons why today is not the day to start that diet...

1. The chocolates and cake that were part of the fabulous haul of goodies the daughters bought me for Mothers Day. (sniff.)

2. The remains of the most outrageously delicious and calorific Bakewell tart in the history of baking, made by my own lovely mother and given to us to bring home after lunch at her house yesterday.

3. The monster revisions I received on my latest ms late on Friday afternoon.

Beautiful cake! My diet began on 1 Jan and have lost 18lbs so far (sorry sounds like a nanadinana). Hubbie has lost 2 and a half stones and fits back into his business suit. Looks very nice in it too (blush). We've both been using www.myfitnesspal.com - it is free and it works. Poo about lots of revisions. Mx

Definitely not the day to start. Do you need help those chocolates and cake? No? The tart then?

Yum, Bakewell tart!!!! Sorry about the revisions, though. Hope they'll make it a better book and not be as hard as you fear.

Just keep eating, India! And promise yourself some wine this evening after the hellish revisions. Hope you crack them quickly!

Ooh, nice cake! I don't do the 'D' word. Life's too short to deny myself chocolate and biscuits. And chips. And peanut butter. Did I mention I weigh 30 stone? :)

Morton, that's fantastic! Well done - and you did that in spite of your regular meet-ups with Ellie at the Ginger Pig?! Double respect. January is such a hard month to get motivated, so I was hoping that once the sun began to shine I'd be overcome with wholesome enthusiasm. Still waiting...

Lacey, you're a sweetie - I'm fine with the chocolates and the cake (the tart is all gone - oops) but the revisions I could really use a hand with. When can you get here? x

Oh ros, I know they're going to make the book better, but it feels like I'm standing at the bottom of Everest, and I just want to go back into my tent and get into my sleeping bag. But must snap on my crampons (or something) and begin the ascent.

Oh hello Rachel and Serenity - missed you there! Wine is, of course, the missing link Rach, although the hangover I had on Saturday morning (following revisions) should possibly serve as a warning. Cake is safer, maybe.

I don't generally do the D thing either Serenity. My philosophy tends to be that if it's delicious it's also good for you because it lifts your spirits. However, not being able to do my jeans up is making them sink again. Action is definitely needed - just not right now!

It is not dieting you want. YOu want to SWEAT.
I have discovered doing the workout dvds does work. I have gone down several dress sizes.
(and can eat cake!)

I know you will hit the revisions out of the park.

Your clever mother - I've never even tasted home-made Bakewell tart.....

Michelle *whimpers* I kind of do, and yet... it's just easier to open the fridge for a feel-good boost. I am utterly in awe of your willpower to stick at this, and can't wait to see you and admire the results. (In fact, can't wait to see you anyway - it's been AGES!)

Caroline - thank you! I like your advice much more than Michelle's!!

Aw, Jane, thanks! They are, aren't they? This year was the first time they've masterminded Mothers Day by themselves and without any help from Him, and I was so overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness I almost didn't notice the towels on the bathroom floor and the mess in their bedrooms...

My mum made this one up by combining two recipes, Sharon, and put ground almonds in the pastry and the filling for extra-calorific almond yumminess. Jeepers, it was divine. I'd send you some if there was any left (she says, safe in the knowledge that it's all gone and that statement can't be put to the test...) You can still see the evidence of how lovely it was on my hips.
